Attractive Window Screens That Make a Real Difference
Did you know that 40% of your electric bill can be attributed to costs incurred heating and cooling your home? Considering the fact that the electric bill is one of the larger components of most home budgets, savings in this monthly expense category are going to make an appreciable difference to cash flow. Glass in windows and doors contributes greatly to the gain and loss of heat inside the home. Installing solar window screens is one of the most affordable ways to address this gain and loss. What’s more, these solar screens provide additional functional and aesthetic benefits for the homeowner.
Energy Conservation
The primary purposes of solar window screens are to reduce heat gain in the summer and to slow heat loss in the winter. As a first line of defense, solar screens cool the home by reflecting, absorbing, and dispersing large amounts of solar heat and glare before it has a chance to reach and penetrate the glass in windows and doors. In fact, solar screens have been shown to lower the temperature of a room in daylight by 10 to 15 degrees. Many municipalities offer a rebate program for solar screening. Such rebates enable the homeowner to recoup their investment even more quickly.
Other Benefits of Solar Screens
Beyond potential savings in home heating and cooling costs, solar screens provide other benefits to the homeowner. These include:
- Protection of Furniture and Flooring – The sun’s rays can be harmful to contents within the home. Fabric-covered sofas and chairs can be faded, as can carpet and draperies. Even wood floors can fade over time.
- Privacy – Because they obscure the view inside from the outside during the day, solar screens offer the incremental benefit of daytime privacy. Blinds, drapes and shutters can be opened without onlooker intrusion. Outside views can be enjoyed.
- Reduction of Glare – Solar screens cut out the sun’s glare on computer screens creating better working environments. They also address glare on television screens; with solar screens afternoon sunsets won’t impact your favorite afternoon television shows.
- Curb Appeal – Because they offer a uniform experience from the street, solar screens can enhance the appearance of the home.
